EFS

Does anyone know if EFS in vista will be using AES or if it will be staying with 3DES

I believe it will have AES 256 but don't quote me on that.

I'm with Peter M. On that one. I was going to reply "Yes" to AES from memory. But then couldn't find anything to back it up. But it seems I do recall reading somewhere that EFS uses AES, up to 256-bit. Which I do believe is what's required for Secret and Top Secret in mandatory access control settings.

Duh, I didn't think to look in the most obvious place. Search Vista's Help and Support for AES.
If you go into User Accounts there's a link in the left column for managing encryption certificates.

Cipher.exe on Vista has been expanded to display the algorithm information for encrypted files. Bring up a command prompt and run "cipher /c <filename>."
